St Lucy's Crown - Free Knittig Pattern

ST LUCY IS CELEBRATED IN SWEDEN AND IN SWEDISH SPEAKING PARTS OF FINLAND.
SHE IS CELEBRATED ON DECEMBER 13 WITH PARADES AND SONGS.
EVERY SCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN CLASS HAD THEIR OWN PARADE AND ONE LUCKY GIRL GOT TO BE LUCY AND WEAR THE CANDLE CROWN. THIS GIRL USUALLY HAD LONG BLOND HAIR, AND THAT WAS PROBABLY THE REASON WHY I NEVER GOT TO BE LUCY, MY HAIR WAS SHORT.


WHIT THIS BEANIE I GET TO BE LUCY EVERY YEAR!

YARN

Worsted weight, 200, / 100g for example Knit Picks Wool of Andes Worsted

Colors: Green, 50 g, Blue 50 g, White 25 g, Yellow 20 g, Black 15 g

Sample uses Garnstudio Drops Fabel Uni Color, yarn held double. 

NEEDLES

Short circular needle size 3 mm (US 2 1/2) or to obtain gauge

GAUGE

24 sts and 27 rows = 10 cm (4 inch) in st st knitted in the round

NOTIONS

1 stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round

8 stitch markers or scrap yarn for the crown decreases

SIZE

Circumference of

43 [46, 50, 53, 57] cm (17 [18, 20, 21, 22] inch to fit

Toddler [Child, Teen or adult small, adult medium, adult large]

 

13 repeats = 43 cm (17 inch)

14 repeats = 46 cm (18 inch) child 

15 repeats = 50 cm (20 inch)  teen or small adult

16 repeats = 53 cm (21 inch) adult medium

17 repeats = 57 cm (22 inch) adult large

PATTERN STARTS!

CO 104 [112, 120, 128, 136] sts, join to knit in rounds,


careful not to twist.

Place marker to mark the beginning of the round.

Rep the chart with all sts.




CROWN DECREASES

K11 [12, 13, 14, 15], k2tog, place stitch marker; rep to end.

K to 2 sts before stitch marker, k2tog; rep to end.

Work this last round until 16 sts remain on the needle.

K2tog 8 times, removing the stitch markers.

 

FINISHING

Sew in all the loose ends and block lightly.
